Description

Cap: 5-20cm Pale cream with concentric rings of large, fibrous, slightly-darker scales. Initially ovate expanding to almost flat.

Gills: Free, white, crowded.

Stem: Off-white with a bulbous base and large double-edged ring. Often hollow .

Spores: White

Flesh: White quickly discolour pink or orange when cut.

Habitat: On the ground in all type wood woodland especially in confer woods amongst needle litter. Also found in compost heaps and composted shrubberies.
